Monday Mentionables

In which I discuss five random things about me:

Introversion – Introverts should not be confused or inherently associated with being shy, boring, socially inept, or without interest or ideas. I am most definitely an introvert, and hopefully none of those other things. An article a few months back in Psychology Today really gave me a positive boost, a little courage and validation too, as it described the introverted individual – specifically how someone like me may be perceived by others in relation to what’s actually going on inside. I haven’t always felt this way, but I wouldn’t change this personality characteristic for the world.

Potatoes – If I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life…potatoes. Versatile. Hardy. I can never get enough.

Mindless Self Indulgence + Avoidance Mechanism – I can easily kill hours and hours reading People-type magazines, playing games against the computer, and browsing the same 10 internet sites over and over again. For years cleaning was my outlet for tension. It was something to occupy my hands and focus, although required no mental effort. There was a definitive beginning and end which provided some a sense of accomplishment and control. Cleaning has been replaced over the past year to the aforementioned, but the purpose is roughly the same. Occupy myself, no mental effort, quick and easy entertainment. It’s something I need to work on.

Movies – Ever since I was a child I often watch the same movie repeatedly for days, weeks, months, and rare but true, in access of a year. Ferris Beuller’s Day Off, The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Parenthood, National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, Napoleon Dynamite, My Big Fat Greek Wedding – to name a few, and of course many, many of the MST3K and Rifftrax films. I often find comfort in what is routine.

Too Much of a Good Thing, is a Bad Thing -
This is my motto. And I think it holds true for just about anything. Balance and moderation are key to a good life.
